About

Bliss is about escaping modern society to live in balance with nature. As you explore your new sorroundings and expand your cottage, you need to manage resources wisely.

The game is a spin on the usual expansionist games, which are traditionally very resource-oriented without limits - quite like how modern society is oriented towards eternal growth.

Functionally the game is in Very early development having only been in production for 6 hours before building, you start in a forest in a small hut with your trusty shovel and axe, you can then walk around the forest collecting the different resources and digging up the forest floor, at this time you cant use the resources for anything but the environment reacts to your actions. There are many janky unfinished features but it gives a general idea of the game.

Context

The game is developed as part of EPIC-WE Game Jam at ARoS Art Museum, where we found inspiration in the exhibition Landscapes and the European Value Freedom. As we entered the exhibition, we were immediately struck by the amount of romanticization in the room. As a generation who grew up with the threat of climate crisis, we decided to explore the theme "Human Nature" in relation to landscapes.

Is it our human nature to romanticize the things we destroy?

Visually we found inspiration in the painting Parti ved Vejle Fjord (1862) by Vilhelm Kyhn. The cottage is centered, but in no way central - here we see the landscape as dominant.
